Telecommunications: NEC

Dear Valued Nutec Customer,

This month, NEC announced the end of sale of all on premise telephone systems. This includes SL2100, 3C, and SV9x00 systems, parts, applications, and licenses effective December 31, 2024.

Accelerated by cloud reliability and Covid work from home strategies there has been a shift from on premise platforms to cloud based solutions. NEC is just the latest manufacturer to move on from phone system sales.

Please Note: All NEC On-Premises Unified Communications products, applications, and peripherals are encompassed in this end of life announcement.

Product Phase Date Explanation
EON: End of New System Sales
EOA: End of Add-on Sales
12/31/2024 EON: The product cannot be ordered for new system sales.
EOA: Add-on sales for any hardware (including terminals) or software products (including licenses) and extension of Support and Maintenance services cannot be ordered or fulfilled after this date.
End of Shipment 3/31/2025 (Target) End of Shipment represents the latest target date for shipment of any purchase orders received and/or any new commitments after the Announcement Date (15th April 2024) and before EON/EOA.
EOS: End of Support 3/31/2026 EOS represents the end of pre-sales and post-sales technical assistance.  Customers cannot receive technical assistance, such as configuration help or NTAC support, once the EOS date is reached.
EOM: End of Maintenance 3/31/2026 EOM represents the end of regular software maintenance, e.g., security & bug-fix patches.  Customers cannot receive regular software maintenance once the EOM date is reached.
EOEM: End of Extended Maintenance Per existing contractual obligation entered into prior to 15th April 2024

EOEM represents the end of technical assistance and software maintenance and is only applicable for customers who purchased SWA contracts prior to the Announcement Date (15th April 2024), with the contract period exceeding the EOS/EOM date.

Note: These include only security, critical bug fixes, and technical support, beyond the EOS/EOM date.

Nutec has always been here to support your communication needs and will continue to do so.  We have supported, and continue to support, many systems that have reached the end of sale.

Here is some important information on your support options and critical dates.

December 31, 2024 

  • Last day to buy new hardware and licensing from NEC. Hardware one-year warranty will be honoured by NEC into 2025.
  • Last opportunity to buy phones, cards, spares or expansion licenses.
  • Last day to buy Software Assurance from NEC. 
  • Software Assurance term and NEC support can be extended to March 31, 2026, if purchased in 2024
  • Nutec recommends adding SIP licenses for a bridge to the cloud. Bridged cloud phones can be extensions on your NEC system today. A great way to try new features and technology and insurance for any event on your system.
 

2025

  • NEC NTAC support is still available.
  • Nutec will continue to provide full support, backed by NEC. Managed Communications Plans (MCP) will still be renewed.
  • Nutec will stock critical spares for MCP customers.
  • Customers with SIP licenses for bridge can continue testing and migrating to the cloud.
  • Customers can forward numbers to Nutec cloud systems the same day a request is made. This ensures business continuity.
 

2026 – 2028

  • NEC NTAC support is available through March 31, 2026.
  • Nutec will continue to provide full support through December 31, 2028. Managed Communications Plans (MCP) will still be renewed.
  • Hardware replacement for MCP will be on a best effort basis. As customers migrate to the cloud, hardware will be refurbished and available on a best effort basis.
  • Software Assurance is not needed for the phone system to function.
  • Customers with SIP licenses for bridge can continue testing and migrating to the cloud.
  • Customers can forward numbers to Nutec cloud systems the same day a request is made. This ensures business continuity.
  • Nutec support past NEC support dates would include access to spare hardware parts and our technical support providing a longer runway for change.

In summary remember,

  • Nutec support as normal for 2024 for SV9x00 & 3C.
  • Nutec support as normal for 2025 – expansions should be pre-ordered in 2024 for SV9x00 & 3C.
  • Nutec support as normal till the end 2028 – best effort on hardware availability for SV9x00 & 3C.
  • Start testing the cloud today.
